Hello, they've made it royal free

They only did it. After the right royal row about Princess Martha selling, sorry sharing, her wedding with Hello magazine, the impossible task set by her king dad has been completed. The socials video of her vows with Durek Verrett are a royal free zone.

Given that King Harald said, within hours of the announcement of the magazine deal, that neither he nor any member of his royal family would be in the photos or the Netflix show that is also being filmed, the editors had their work cut out. Like all loving parents, which Harald and his wife, Sonja, most definitely are, they were front and centre for their daughter's day. But they are also nowhere to be seen in the mushfest of Martha and Durek saying 'I do' to one another.

Instead, we get a lot of close ups of Martha looking like she's about to cry and a lot of Durek's shoulder which is presumably the only angle that ensured neither the current monarch and consort of Norway nor the future monarch and consort of Norway were anywhere near the lens. There are a few moments of bridesmaids in sugar pink and a rather energetic guest in the background appearing to whoop (yes, really) but it's mostly Martha talking and Durek's sleeve.

The wedding has been a big success for the magazine with huge coverage across socials and a popular bumper edition covering the four days of celebrations. It's been a trickier situation for Norway's royals who marched out in national costume for the event, refusing to be hidden, and then sailed off the next morning while the party was still drawing to its conclusion. For all the eye rolling about a magazine wedding, it's worth remembering that Martha is still fourth in line to the throne of Norway which is really quite close indeed. So there is an element of should this really have happened about the whole thing. It's the closest Hello have ever got to a throne with their direct royal coverage. Whether Martha sharing her vows on a magazine's Insta will prove to be problematic for her family in the long run remains to be seen.
